Do You Recognise This Man? This jolly character has been spotted hopping down chimney pots and practising sleigh driving, but the fake beard and jaunty hat aren't fooling anybody. It is of course, children's favourite character, Mr Potato Head, in disguise. Mr Potato Head was invented by George Learner and first released in 1952. It is believed characteristics from George's own family inspired the accessories, with the green baseball cap and bushy moustache (still part of the original kit) coming from his father. The original kit is also still available and all the components are interchangeable with this special Santa version, allowing an even greater variety of funny faces and ridiculous, portly characters to be created. Presumably a real potato could still be used, but a clean, plastic version is provided and a secret panel in the back allows spare bits to be safely stored. Suitable for 2 years plus - irresistible to all ages.
