One of those scientific curiosities with no practical purpose that fascinates almost everyone and is impossible to stop playing with.
The two strongly-magnetic orbs are made from Haematite (also known as Iron Oxide), a naturally occurring mineral found in many countries. When the orbs are gently thrown together they rapidly repel and attract in mid air, emitting a loud eerie (almost alien-like) buzzing sound, until they come to rest - an effect that can be clearly seen if they are allowed to roll together on a smooth surface. In addition to this curious reaction, their magnetic properties and highly polished surface make them particularly pleasing objects.
