An ingenious new gadget that allows everyone to act out their rock star fantasies and not feel the least bit foolish jumping around, playing air guitar. The fret-shaped device contains eight pre-programmed rock classics such as Queen’s ‘One Vision’ and ‘Wild Thing’ by the Troggs. When one of these is selected, a backing track plays - the guitar part is played by strumming through invisible infrared beams that shoot from the base of the fret. Cleverly, the correct chord is automatically played, so anyone can air guitar along with satisfying results - those with a good knowledge of the songs, and so able to time the strums correctly, will feel particularly accomplished.

It's real ingenuity is in its wide appeal. Even the least musical can have fun, wildly thrashing away on the pre-programmed mode imagining themselves to be whichever rock god they worship. But it gets much cleverer than that. Real musical value and much greater creativity is offered in the freestyle mode - a full range of guitar chords is available by holding down the relevant key (additional buttons allow the chords to be made flat, sharp, minor or seven), so players can effectively write and play their own songs. A 3.5mm output socket even allows amplifiers and speakers to be plugged in, or alternatively headphones – allowing welcome relief for those with less ‘musical appreciation’. Cheaper, and better than the real thing. OK, it’s not quite as good as the real thing, but it’s only £14.99, instant fun, you can take it anywhere and who knows where it could lead - rock stardom beckons!
