I bought this for myself (46 year old) and my daughter (14 year old)

It really is a challenge to make, so don't expect to have it all sorted in a couple of hours-I'd estimate about 12 hours

I'd highly recommend it though if you want something that requires patience!

If you don't, pick the easier kit!

Rail Race Level 4_Box

Christmas Present for my 13 y.o son. It looked relatively straight forward from the picture on the box, but I was realistic to think a good degree of adult input would be required despite it saying age 10+ on the box .... but .... in reality, it was much harder/awkward to build than I thought and there was no way my 13-y.o would have managed it on it's own especially as we'd not built a level 1-3 version before hand.

In the end I pretty much spent the best part of 2-days on it and even then, I simplified the design somewhat - a double loop-the-loop instead of a triple, fewer coils on the spiral and other similar adjustments. Still we did get all 4x balls working at the same time, and it is quite impressive when on the go - very smooth action.

However, it does need constant tweaking though, especially the see-saw pieces. I think gravity makes the longer unsuppoted lengths sag a little, needing re-adjustment and tuning. Good fun all the same.

If you're struggling to make sense of the quite poor instructions (and plain wrong in places) I've added a bunch of photos on flickr at :

I bought this for my son. Do not be fooled by the 10+ rating on the box! I am a 46 year old science graduate and it took me probably 4 or 5 hours to build this over several evenings. The instructions are absolutely appalling. They are very difficult to understand in places, and just plain wrong in others. It is a fun product, and when built, it does work well. But I doubt any 10 year old could build it, and frankly it should really only be attempted by adventurous adults.
